Haiku Party Winners!

May 15th, 2010

I’m very pleased to introduce my TWO picks from the Twitter haiku party on 5/13/10. My favorites are…

A vast distance trod
Flower stem to blade of grass
The ant toils on
[by @pn8r]

Spanish moss adorns
Vast plantations in the South
Old men with gray beards
[by @marcosarroyos]

I picked @pn8r because of his versatility. He offered up several different haiku that showed a nice range — some serious, some funny. I chose the one from @marcosarroyos because it was such a crowd favorite, spurring a flurry of retweets. The moss/beard comparison is a great image.

Instead of the haiku book as a prize, these two opted for an alternative. I gave the money to my local foodshelf. So today I made a $20 donation to Second Harvest Heartland.

Thanks again to all the wonderful poets who came out to play #haikuparty. Any time you want to write haiku, you know where to find me. 🙂
