Haiku Party 5/13/10

May 11th, 2010

You are cordially invited to a haiku party on Twitter this Thursday, May 13. Starting around 9 p.m. Central time (that’s -6 GMT), look for the #haikuparty hash tag.  I, @TinaNguyen, will be your host and guide.

What? You’ve never been to an online haiku party? The concept is quite simple. Someone (in this case, me) picks a word, and everyone starts writing haiku using that word. Tag your haiku with the appropriate party tag (#haikuparty) so people can follow along. Tweet and retweet as much as you like. Come and go as you like. Count your syllables…or not. (I won’t.)

To add to the festivities, I’m offering up a small prize. After the party, I’ll pick one haiku and award the writer this sweet little gem: The Sound of Water: Haiku by Basho, Buson, Issa, and Other Poets. http://amzn.to/czGZvR And if the winner is agreeable, I would be happy to share his or her poem here on my blog.

So please join us, won’t you? No pressure, just a lot of fun and a chance to play with some wonderful Twitter poets! I’ll be waiting for you.
